WCAMC Newsletter: Thur Family Night @ Double Dave’s in Round Rock & Cedar Park

Howdy Ags,
Living in central Texas we can be sure spring is on the way.  80 degrees one day and 40 the next.  I was told when I first came to Texas, “If you don’t like the weather just wait 5 minutes, it’ll change”.
Plenty going on over in Aggieland as well.  The National Indoor Track Championships will be held in College Station this weekend.  A great opportunity to literally see some of the fastest individuals in the country in our own backyard.  Softball is off to a fantastic start, with any luck the baseball will make a few adjustments after their rough weekend in Houston against our former BIG XII opponents.  The women’s basketball team will once again make an appearance in the national tournament while we anxiously wait to see if the men will be invited to the NIT.  Plenty of talent but youth and inexperience caught up with Coach Kennedy and the team this year.
With spring brings the onset of planning for our club.  We have two big events on the near horizon, both of which gives all of our members the opportunity to get involved.
We begin next week with our first official Fish Fry committee meeting (see details below)  This is our scholarship fundraising event and we will celebrate 25 years of hosting a fantastic event.  Needless to say, there is something for everyone and you are invited to get in early by attending the committee meeting.  We can use fresh faces and new ideas to celebrate 25 great years and make sure this event is even more memorable than those of the past.
The following week we will have our Muster Committee meeting (details also below)  Our committee chair Abby has done a great job of getting things in place but we can certainly use some assistance.

Fish Fry Meeting

Our 25th annual Fish Fry is on the horizon.  We cannot make this event work without the amazing effort of our club members and volunteers.  The first meeting to begin working on the event has been set for March 13th @ 6:30PM.  The meeting will be held at the Georgetown Health Foundation Community Rooms (tx.ag/GHFCRooms).  Please mark the date/time on your calendar so that you can be sure and join us.  We will have additional details in the near future.

Muster Meeting

We all know the date (April 21st) and now it is time to put some finishing touches on Muster 2017.  While it is necessary to secure a venue early, we have already addressed that as well as our speaker for this year.  There is still plenty to do and we would appreciate you joining us at Mel’s in Georgetown on Monday  20 March at 8PM.  We will have a private room to meet but feel free to grab a bite prior to joining us.

2017 Scholarship Applications available

If you are aware of a Williamson County high school student that has been accepted for enrollment in the Fall of 2017, scholarship applications can now be found on our club website (wcamc.aggienetwork.com/scholarships).  The deadline for scholarship applications is 1 April ’17, at which time our scholarship committee will spend extensive time reviewing each application and selecting this year’s recipients.  We will recognize and award the scholarships on April 21st at our local Aggie Muster Ceremony.

Weekly Events

We will continue 2017 with our weekly events where hopefully you can find something that fits both your time frame, as well as your interest.  Please also keep in mind that we are here to serve the members of our club, with that said we are always open to suggestions and ideas of other activities that will serve our members.  Just keep in mind, it may also allow you the opportunity to step up and volunteer to lead a new activity.
The first Thursday of the month will be our Reveille Breakfast at Rudy’s in Round Rock, where you can stop by on your way to work for a little social time and a great breakfast taco.  On the second Thursday we will continue our Family Night at Double Dave’s.  Make plans to join us at either the Cedar Park or Round Rock location for great pizza rolls and a night where you do not have to cook.  On the third Thursday we will have our Networking Lunch.  Whether you are in the market for a new job or looking for exceptional candidates as new employees, this is a great opportunity to connect with other Aggies.  Finally, now that football season is over (a positive in many ways) we do not have any watch parties so we will resume our Howdy Hour on the fourth Thursday of the month beginning in February.
We look forward to seeing familiar faces and welcoming all the new ones to all of our club activities.  Remember to join our club page on Facebook (fb.com/wcamc) so you can stay up to date with all that is going on around the county.
Look forward to seeing everyone at one of our upcoming events.

Howdy Ags,
I want to thank everyone who came out for our annual membership meeting in January.  Thank you to Denise & Shuler Page ’75 and their staff at Gumbo’s North for providing the location.  We may have to look for a new spot next year as the group continues to grow.  Enjoyed seeing familiar faces as well as the crew of new attendees.  We had several first timers who joined us for the meeting, best of all they are looking forward to getting involved in other club activities.
I would like to thank the board for their continuing service, working to put together activities that allow us all to gather in an arena that best suits our personal needs, while supporting the fundraising of the Williams County A&M Foundation and its efforts to raise money for scholarships.
A special welcome (and a big thank you) to our newest board members, Michael Howell and Courtney Alcott, who will be serving two year terms as our at large representative board members.  If you are still interested in getting involved in some capacity with the club there are plenty of opportunities in the horizon,  Fish Fry committee will be kicking off soon as well as our Muster committee.  If you are interested in getting involved in any way please email us at GigEm@wcamc.com or call/text us at 512-887-2247.

WCAMC Endowed Scholarship

I would like to thank the members of our club who voted to work toward an ‘ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP’ to recognize our 25th Anniversary of providing scholarships to local students looking to attend A&M.  This will be the first endowed scholarship from our club and we look forward to funding it throughout the year.  We will work with the A&M Foundation to establish this scholarship and all donations will be tax deductible.
Thanks to the generosity of a few WCAMC members we had a few pledges to contribute $2,500.00 the night of the annual meeting, which means we are already 10% towards the necessary $25,000.00 needed for the endowment.  This will allow us to have a scholarship in perpetuity recognizing all the efforts over many decades for those that started and continue to work toward raising funds for future Aggies.
Please look for continued details on how you can contribute to this fund as we finalize the information with the A&M Foundation.

FISH FRY Meeting Scheduled

Our 25th annual Fish Fry is on the horizon.  We cannot make this event work without the amazing effort of our club members and volunteers.  The first meeting to begin working on the event has been set for March 13th @ 6:30PM.  The meeting will be held at the Georgetown Health Foundation Community Rooms (tx.ag/GHFCRooms).  Please mark the date/time on your calendar so that you can be sure and join us.  We will have additional details in the near future.

Howdy Ags,
Happy New Year to everyone.  I certainly hope the Holiday’s were good to you and your families.  With any luck you have hit the new year with both feet on the ground and moving forward to a great year.  While it may take some of us a month (or two) to remember to write 2017 on documents or those archaic items called checks, it is always nice to step into a new year and what may lie ahead.

As the club will have our annual meeting on the 19th of this month we will usher in some new board members and offer a ‘heartfelt’ thank you to those who have served the club over the last year and will be stepping down.  Of course we can count on them to stay involved and continue to assist as we move forward.

Howdy Ags,
As the end of the year begins to draw to a close, we can take a moment to reflect on the year and what lies ahead.  As a club we had a very good year, assisting with the local Special Olympics with our own version of the “Big Event”, a well attended Muster along with $40,000 worth of scholarship to local county seniors headed to A&M.  Our annual Fish Fry continues to improve and in 2017 we will have our 25th ANNUAL event.  Need to make this ‘Silver Anniversary’ event something to remember, great opportunity for everyone to get involved.  Our involvement in the Austin SEC Club Tailgate Kick-off picnic was well attended and a good time was had by all.  In addition, our weekly events continue to draw a good crowd, we will continue to find activities that our members wish to participate in.  Thanks to everyone who has participated in any of our club events and a special THANK YOU to the individuals that put forth extra effort in pulling off the events and continuing to move our club forward.

Get involved in the WCAMC

Networking Lunch

Our monthly luncheon is scheduled this week for a local favorite, Greenhouse Craft Food, and we hope you will take the time to join us and expand your local Aggie network.  This is a great opportunity to expand your contacts and look for new endeavors or as a chance to find quality employees that may be in search of a new opportunity.

Aggies go ‘Bowling’

As many of you know, the Aggie football team has accepted an invitation to participate in the Advocare V100 Texas Bowl.  The game is slotted for Wednesday 28 December with an 8PM kick-off.  Due to the fact that it is the middle of the week, not everyone will be on vacation, and a very late start time, we will NOT be making any arrangements for a watch party.
Many thanks to those of you that joined us through the regular season.  We wanted to make sure we shared this information with you as we have had a couple inquiries.

Annual Membership Meeting

Our annual membership meeting has been set for Thursday 19 January at Gumbo’s North in Georgetown.  We will have a special menu to order from so be sure to come by and join us.  More to come on that in the future but be sure to save the date.
Thanks for a great year, and we look forward to another successful year in 2017.

Howdy Ags,
Hard to believe we are heading into December and there are only 27 shopping days left before Christmas.  Perhaps between “Black Friday”, which for many of us brought on an entirely new definition after the game, but I digress; and “Cyber Monday” you were able to get a jump on all of those purchases.
We are moving into basketball season, none too soon, Coach Blair and the Lady Aggies have certainly started on a hot streak to kick things off.  The men’s team made it to the final game before being outscored by UCLA in their Thanksgiving tournament.
We will have three of our monthly activities this month starting with Reveille Breakfast this Thursday (1 December), Family Night at Double Dave’s next week (8 December) and close with our Networking Luncheon on 15 December.  We will not have a Howdy Hour this month so be sure to join us for the SEC Toys-for-Tots event on Thursday 8 December.

Howdy Ags,
We have moved into November and after starting last week feeling good about our football program we had a rude awakening on Saturday.  It was a rough trip to “StarkVegas” and the cow-bells got the better of the team.  Lets hope a return to Kyle Field can help to turn things around so that we can finish the season on a positive note.
For those of you not headed to the big game we wish you safe travels and be sure to be loud!! Remember, it is a 6:30PM kickoff and it appears there will be some pleasant fall weather to enjoy Aggie friends and tailgating before kick-off.
The cool weather is headed our direction and it will finally feel like fall ‘football weather’.  There are plenty of other Aggie athletics as soccer and volleyball are wrapping up their season and basketball has started as well.

Thur Aggie Networking Lunch | Sat Hullabaloo Huddle

18 Oct

Howdy Ags,
In the event you have lost track of time, it is BAMA week and the Aggies will head into T-town to face the #1 ranked team. It has been a few years since ‘lighting in a bottle’ flashed itself in Bryant-Denny stadium, perhaps it is time once again?!?
For those of you headed to the big game we wish you safe travels and be sure to be loud!! I was fortunate enough to be in the stadium two years ago and the silence in the stadium after the quick Aggie start was amazing.
The cool weather is headed our direction and it will finally feel like fall ‘football weather’.  There are plenty of other Aggie athletics as soccer and volleyball are in the heart of their season and basketball will kick-off right around the corner.

Get involved in the WCAMC

As we approach the end of the year we will be looking for individuals interested in serving on the WCAMC board for 2017.  If you would like to be more involved and help move the club forward in a positive direction, please consider playing a bigger role as part of our leadership team.  We will have Board Officer and at large Board positions opening up and would love to have you you join the team.

12th MAN FACILITY ‘CLEAR BAG’ POLICY

As a reminder, the ‘CLEAR BAG’ policy is for all venues.  As you prepare to attend any event on campus soccer, volleyball, basketball you will no longer be able to take other bags into venues on campus.

AGGIE WATCH PARTY: HULLABALOO HUDDLE

Join us at HIGHER GROUND this week and watch the game with fellow Aggies.  Plenty of TV’s and sound as well.  With a 2:30 kick-off it will be a great location to watch the game.  Thanks to our partners at Lone Star Cafe/Higher Ground as they continue to adjust to the number of Aggies that fill the bar for games.
The New Mexico State kick-off time has been set for 6:30PM on Saturday 29 October.  We are checking with our partner Higher Ground regarding the watch party as they have a Halloween Party scheduled for that evening.  Please be sure to check our website/FB page for an update on that game.

Support WCAM Mom’s Club Turkey Dinner

The annual Turkey Supper Fundraiser has been a tradition for over 60 years and is the only fundraiser held by the Williamson County A&M Mom’s Club.  All money raised is used to fund scholarships for students from Williamson County attending Texas A&M College Station. The club awarded twenty $500 scholarships in May 2015 and awarded an additional $1,000 spread between ten student organizations at Texas A&M.
Thanks for a great year.

Newsletter

Howdy Ags,

We have had a slight taste of cool weather and with any luck it will be back by the weekend. CBS has picked up another Aggie game so we will kick off at Kyle Field at 2:30PM. As a bonus, ESPN college Game Day will be on hand as well. While we do not have a stellar record when they come to town but this is the year we can shake that up. As information, the GAME DAY set up will be in Spence Park, similar to SEC Game Day. Keep that in mind if that is your normal tailgate location. It will be a very lively atmosphere and plenty of fans on hand.

For those of you not headed to Aggieland this weekend, we will once again have our watch party, see below. We have had good turnouts and always more exciting to watch the game with fellow Aggies.
